Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection Partnership

On the morning of August 28th, the ‘Āko‘ako‘a and Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection teams gathered together for the official launch of our partnership and restoration journey in Makaiwa Bay. The ‘Āko‘ako‘a field team completed the first reattachment of corals at the Makaiwa Bay reef nursery where we plan to return twice per year to monitor its progress and reattach corals. As needed during future dives, the team will rescue and relocate vulnerable corals to the land-based nursery, where they will be rehabilitated and returned to the Makaiwa reef nursery.

“We are proud to announce our partnership with the ‘Āko‘ako‘a Reef Restoration Program, a team conducting vital work to ensure Hawai‘i’s reefs are safeguarded for future generations” says Pete Alles, General Manager of Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection.

The resort's commitment to supporting our efforts to restore, protect, and preserve the coral reefs of West Hawai‘i is essential to our mission. This partnership comes as part of Mauna Lani’s ongoing commitment to the preservation of Hawai‘i’s oceans and local ecosystems. We are thankful to have the support of the local community and resort as we embark on this impactful journey together.

“We appreciate the partnership between our program and the Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection. With their support and collaboration, we are working to increase coral cover for the future reef in their area”, said Dr. Greg Asner, ʻĀkoʻakoʻa director.
